Download the source of any Observable Notebooks 2.0 notebook as a self-contained Observable 2.0 .html file — straight from the page, no account or API needed.

1. Install the bookmarklet

Drag this button up to your bookmarks bar:

Observable Notebooks 2.0 export or right-click it and choose “Add to bookmarks / favourites”.

2. Use it

  1. Open a Notebooks 2.0 notebook on observablehq.com — for example anything in the public listing.
  2. Click the Observable Notebooks 2.0 export bookmarklet.
  3. A small panel appears in the top-right corner. Click Download to save the .html file, or Copy to put the source on your clipboard.

The exported file is a standard Observable 2.0 notebook — a <notebook> document with one <script> per cell — that you can version-control, edit, or re-import. It is byte-for-byte what Notebook Kit itself writes, so Observable Desktop opens it directly.

Notebooks 2.0 now lives at observablehq.com; the old new.observablehq.com address redirects there. Classic notebooks are a different format and aren’t supported — the bookmarklet says so rather than exporting an empty file.
